Dyer was commissioned to prepare a concept design for a new shopping and entertainment centre in Krasngorsk. The centre was proposed to be located on the site of the Komsomolets Cinema in the Centre of Krasnogorska, on Lenin Street, in front of the city administration. The Centre a 37K sq m shopping and entertainment centre disposed over 6 levels designed by Dyer on behalf of the Buy to Rent Group opened for customers in December 2014. The cinema was proposed to be demolished to accommodate a new 37.2K sq m the Komsomolets Shopping and Entertainment Centre.
The design accommodates the most popular Russian and international brands with an entertainment content including a multiplex cinema, trendy cafes, quality restaurants and unique ice skating facility. The 5th floor a Cultural Centre of Children’s Art that includes kids stores, a variety of creative workshops, developing studios, play zone with a wide range of entertainment activities. The centre also includes supermarket, multiplex cinema, a large area of cafes and restaurants, an entertainment zone, as well as two levels trading Gallery retail units.
The simple cube shape is an outcome of the possibilities provided by the site and the reflection of the clear functionality we were required to provide. We aimed to create a retail centre that is more than just shopping but also gives a sense of a community centre inviting various users of the building, blurring the boundaries between art, public life, retail and leisure. The building becomes rational, transparent and solid, unique and flexible.
The building’s façades have a strong resemblance with the surrounding environment, set in lush trees. The verticality of the surroundings had an essential impact on the concept development of the facades. The architecture of the exterior envelope deals with the relationship between the spatial and formal structure of the forest as an idea and architectural space and form. The cantilevered box is the only element breaking the unity of the envelope. This element is carefully sculpted to frame views from the food court to the church of Church of Our Lady of the Sign in the Sign-Gubaylove.
The design draws on the unique qualities of the site focusing on the building’s relationship with the adjacent landscape of the park, the building of the major’s office and surrounding trees. Architecturally, the aim has been to combine a highly efficient, contemporary form with elements resembling the majestic verticality of the surrounding birch trees
Consulting company Colliers International have been retained to market and lease the shopping and entertainment centre.
